Volatus Aerospace Inc. Receives Approval for BVLOS Flights Without Visual Observers
Volatus Aerospace Inc. has announced approval from Transport Canada to conduct drone cargo operations beyond the visual line of sight (BVLOS) using ground-based technology. This approval pertains to the company's DroneCare project, which operates a hospital route from Milton to Oakville in the Greater Toronto Area.
This authorization represents a significant advancement for Volatus. Initially requiring eight personnel, the DroneCare project now operates with just three, enhancing its commercial viability. Greg Colacitti, Director of Operations, emphasized the importance of this step in providing efficient drone cargo services.
Glen Lynch, CEO of Volatus, highlighted that this achievement advances the entire drone delivery sector. The company can now transport dangerous goods more effectively, promising faster healthcare supply deliveries and improved patient care.
The milestone follows previous partial BVLOS operation approvals. The DroneCare initiative, started in response to COVID-19, demonstrates Volatus’s growing capabilities in healthcare logistics with ongoing technological and regulatory advancements.
