Vonovia's Climate Targets Validated by SBTi as Aligned with Paris Agreement
Vonovia SE, a prominent housing company in Europe, has received confirmation from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) that its climate targets comply with the 1.5-degree Celsius goal set by the Paris Climate Agreement. This validation places Vonovia among the select few in Germany's property sector adhering to science-based climate goals. The company has committed to reducing its Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 42% and its Scope 3 emissions by 25% by 2030, using 2021 as the base year.
The Climate Disclosure Project (CDP) also awarded Vonovia an A- rating, recognizing its leadership and best practices in climate management strategies. These acknowledgments highlight Vonovia's role as a leader in sustainable practices within the property industry, aiming for a nearly climate-neutral status by 2045.
Philip Grosse, CFO of Vonovia, emphasized the importance of setting science-based climate targets, noting their crucial role in attracting reliable investments and promoting innovation within the financial market. Vonovia's strategic commitment to sustainability is also reflected in how it integrates climate objectives into its management practices and compensation policies.
