Waga Energy Initiates Renewable Natural Gas Project in Quebec
Waga Energy, in collaboration with the Régie des matières résiduelles du Lac-Saint-Jean (RMR), is launching a renewable natural gas (RNG) project at the Hébertville-Station Landfill in Quebec. This endeavor utilizes Waga's WAGABOX® technology to convert landfill gas into RNG, aiming to produce up to 55 GWh annually. This output will fulfill the energy needs of approximately 2,280 households while reducing carbon emissions by 10,000 metric tons of CO₂ annually.
The initiative aligns with Quebec's 2030 Green Economy Plan, intending to integrate 10% RNG into its gas network by 2030. The project received a CA$300,000 grant for its feasibility study, supported by Quebec's Ministry of Economy, Innovation, and Energy. Additional funding applications will follow to support necessary investments.
This project marks Waga Energy's fifth biomethane initiative in Canada, evidencing the technology's potential in supporting the region's climate objectives.
