Weak economic growth weighs on Swiss automobile market
In November 2024, the Swiss automotive market recorded a significant decline in passenger car registrations, with 19,698 new registrations, a decrease of 10.5% compared to the previous year. Over the whole year, a decrease of 4.9% is observed compared to 2023. However, alternatively powered vehicles are experiencing remarkable growth, reaching 66.5% of the market in November, with hybrids accounting for a record share of 37%.
Despite strict climate targets, auto-suisse stresses that additional incentives are needed to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles. Measures such as more attractive public charging rates and reduced taxes on imported electric vehicles are discussed. The electrification of freight transport remains a major challenge.
