Wienerberger AG Set to Build Advanced CO2-Neutral Concrete Roof Tile Plant in Hungary
Wienerberger AG, a leading provider of ecological solutions for the building sector, announced the construction of a new, advanced concrete roof tile plant in Hejőpapi, Hungary. Slated to begin production in the second half of 2025, this facility will integrate Industry 4.0 technologies to achieve CO2-neutral operations. The plant aims to establish new industry standards in Europe by automating the production of concrete roof tiles, requiring human intervention only for specific accessory solutions.
The implementation of advanced digital technologies will collect comprehensive data on the production process, allowing for rapid improvements and maintaining high quality standards. Alongside improving efficiency, the facility will use sustainable methods such as heat pumps for drying processes, and water recycling aligning with circular economy principles. This strategic investment not only promotes regional industrial development but also expands Wienerberger's footprint as a regional production hub for various European markets.
“This significant investment reflects our commitment to enhancing quality of life and pioneering the construction industry towards more sustainable practices,” stated Heimo Scheuch, CEO of Wienerberger. The plant is expected to have a production capacity equivalent to more than 300 football pitches annually once operational.
