Woodside Energy CEO Meg O’Neill Named ‘Energy Person of the Year’

Woodside Energy CEO Meg O’Neill has been honored by the African Energy Chamber as “Energy Person of the Year” for her dedication to harnessing Africa’s oil and gas resources. This recognition highlights her nearly three decades of experience and significant contributions to a just energy transition in Africa.

O’Neill will receive the award at African Energy Week, taking place in Cape Town from November 4-8, 2024. This annual event is a key meeting place for Africa’s energy industry. O’Neill is the first non-African to receive this prestigious award.

O'Neill's career includes a 23-year tenure at ExxonMobil, where she held several leadership roles. She joined Woodside in 2018 as COO and was appointed CEO in 2021. Under her leadership, Woodside successfully launched Senegal’s first offshore oil project.

O’Neill has also been instrumental in Woodside’s expansion efforts in Namibia, finalizing a farm-in agreement in the deepwater Orange Basin. Her leadership comes at a time when global investors are hesitant about new fossil fuel projects.
