World Hepatitis Summit 2024 Convenes in Lisbon to Discuss Advances and Elimination Goals
The World Hepatitis Summit (WHS) 2024 will take place in Lisbon on 9-11 April, gathering global experts to deliberate on the progress in hepatitis prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. This assembly aims to provide insights into innovative approaches to enhance access to testing, vaccination, and treatment services for viral hepatitis. The summit's discussions will also cover strategies to combat stigma, discrimination, and advocate for necessary funding towards achieving the goal of eliminating viral hepatitis by 2030.
During the summit, the World Hepatitis Alliance (WHA) alongside The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) will unveil a report highlighting the stigma and discrimination faced by individuals living with hepatitis in Europe. Key findings indicate a significant portion of those with hepatitis B and C face challenges in discussing their condition with others, heavily impacting their social disclosure. Concurrently, WHO will release its 2024 Global Hepatitis Report marking an effort in providing comprehensive data to bolster interventions and draw on lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic to fight viral hepatitis effectively.
