XenData Launches Media Portal for Enhanced Archive Accessibility
XenData introduces Media Portal, a new software offering aimed at enriching the user experience for its LTO and cloud archive solutions. The announcement was made on March 26, 2024, outlining that the portal features a web interface. This interface grants users the capability to navigate through the archived file system, preview archived video and image files, and download selected items. This addition complements the current access methods to a XenData archive, inclusive of local network access and an S3 interface for object storage.
Designed to enhance the accessibility of archived content, Media Portal can be integrated into both new and existing XenData LTO archive systems, accommodating systems with robotic LTO libraries and external LTO drives. It generates previews for video and image files upon their archiving, storing these previews on the archive's managed disk volume for authorized user viewing and selection. Furthermore, the portal displays cartridge barcode information for content stored 'on the shelf', facilitating the retrieval of required LTO cartridges.
The cloud version of Media Portal operates on Windows machines, offering a gateway to several public clouds like AWS S3, Azure Blob Storage, and Wasabi object storage. It uniquely previews video and image files, including those stored on inaccessible tiers. XenData CEO Phil Storey emphasized the portal's utility in managing media archives. Available from May 2024, the Media Portal is marketed as a software subscription starting at $980 per annum.
