Young Girl Finds Ancient Egyptian Amulet in Israel

During a family trip near Tel Qana in Hod Hasharon, 12-year-old Dafna Filshteiner discovered an ancient Egyptian amulet. The scarab amulet, dating back 3,500 years to Egypt's New Kingdom period, was found while Dafna was searching for interesting stones. Initially thought to be ordinary, further research revealed its significance.

The family contacted the Israel Antiquities Authority, leading to an examination by Dr. Yitzhak Paz. The amulet features symbols representing the Egyptian goddess Serket and the nefer symbol. It holds cultural importance, reflecting Egypt's influence on the region.

Tel Qana, a significant archaeological site, offers insights into Egyptian influence. Dafna received a certificate for her find, now displayed at the Schottenstein National Campus for the Archaeology of Israel in Jerusalem.
