Zentek Announces Preliminary Battery Results and $441,000 University Grant
Zentek Ltd. has announced preliminary results for its battery project and a $441,000 Mission Alliance Grant received by the University of Toronto. The collaboration, involving Professors Mohini Sain and Ning Yan, will focus on optimizing graphite for battery anodes.
Initial findings show that engineered Albany graphite anodes feature a 17% increase in capacity over commercial options. The three-year project will explore methods to purify, enhance capacity, and prolong the cycle life of Albany graphite.
This initiative also complements an ongoing $1.6M Mitacs research aimed at creating multifunctional materials for automotive batteries. Graphite, a critical mineral in the Canadian government's priority list, plays a significant role in electric vehicle battery production.
Greg Fenton, CEO of Zentek, expressed confidence in the project, emphasizing that the company's Albany graphite holds promising potential for superior anode materials in the EV market.
