Zentek Unveils New Graphite Gel-Based Fire-Retardant Product

Zentek Ltd. has announced the creation of a novel Graphite Gel-Based Fire-Retardant (GBFR) product designed to protect homes from wildfires. Altek Advanced Materials Inc. has secured exclusive rights to commercialize the technology in the US under the brand name GraphGel™. The product features a gel that forms a thermal barrier, combined with expandable graphite to protect surfaces even after drying.

The eco-friendly coating can be easily removed with water and has been tested to ensure it meets high fire resistance standards. A demonstration in Santa Clarita, California showed that surfaces treated with GraphGel™ experienced minimal damage when exposed to intense fire, compared to untreated surfaces.

Under a development agreement, Altek will fund further advancements in the product, alongside testing and commercialization in the US, paying Zentek a royalty based on net sales.
