Zentek's Albany Graphite Achieves High Purity Milestone

Zentek Ltd., through its subsidiary Albany Graphite Corporation, announced a breakthrough in graphite purification, achieving a five-nines purity of 99.9991% directly from a larger Albany graphite deposit sample. This was achieved using a pilot-scale fluidized bed reactor process, marking significant progress in graphite purification technology.

The purification was conducted on a 950 g sample of Albany flotation concentrate, consisting of 85% Total Graphitic Carbon, without hydrometallurgical steps. The electrothermal purification test using a fluidized bed reactor indicated impurities concentration as low as 9 ppm, much below the standard for advanced battery materials.

Zentek plans to further explore the material's use in lithium-ion batteries and the nuclear sector. The company aims to create ultra-high purity graphite for battery-ready anode applications, supported by ongoing research and process optimization.
