Zone-Éco and Waga Energy launch a biomethane production unit in Quebec

Zone-Éco and Waga Energy announced the start-up of a biomethane production unit in Cowansville, Quebec. This installation will inject approximately 30 GWh of renewable gas into the Énergir network annually, sufficient to supply 1,750 homes and avoid the emission of 5,542 tonnes of CO2 eq per year.

Thanks to Waga Energy's WAGABOX® technology, biogas from landfilled waste is converted into biomethane. The project received grants of $12.4 million CAD from the Quebec government, as part of its renewable natural gas program.

This is Waga Energy's third unit in Quebec, with a total capacity of 195 GWh per year. A fourth unit is under construction in British Columbia.

This project reinforces Quebec's objective of reaching 10% biomethane in gas networks by 2030, thus contributing to the energy transition and the reduction of carbon emissions.
