Eiffage consortium wins the contract for Phase 2  of ACC’s gigafactory for electric vehicle batteries in Douvrin in a deal worth almost €100 million

Through its subsidiaries Eiffage Génie Civil (project lead), Eiffage Construction, Eiffage Métal and Eiffage Route in a consortium with Moretti Constructions and Bemaco, Eiffage has secured the contract to build the second complex at the gigafactory dedicated to the production of car.

batteries in Douvrin, Hauts-de-France, on behalf of the joint venture ACC (Automotive Cells Company).

The contract is worth almost €100 million in total, with Eiffage’s share amounting to over €60 million. This covers Works Package 1 of Phase 2 for general contracting on earthworks, roads and utilities, deep foundations and structural works, concrete and steel frameworks, roofing, cladding, waterproofing, and interior works.

The future building, with total floor space of 62,000 m2, will also include annex buildings, commercial premises and electrical substations occupying around 4,300 m2. It will be located adjacent to the first complex, opened in May 2023 and built by Eiffage in a consortium with Moretti Constructions, Bemaco and Exyte. This first complex, comprising a main building and 20 ancillary structures, already occupies 60,000 m2. The new project will increase annual production capacity from the current 13 GWh to 28.4 GWh.

Works started in August 2023 and are expected to take 20 months, running concurrently with four other works packages.

Created in the summer of 2020 by Saft (TotalEnergies), Stellantis and Opel, and joined by Mercedes in summer 2021, the joint venture ACC embodies the ambition to create a leading global player in the development and manufacture of high-performance batteries for the automotive industry by 2023. This Franco-German alliance also aims to re-establish European industrial sovereignty in electric mobility and thus help to achieve European energy transition and low-carbon mobility targets.
